2009

Hello all. Figured it was about time for another update. Things in the Briley household are moving pretty smoothly at the moment...much to my surprise! The holidays were hectic, but we managed to hold it all together. I even hosted Christmas at my house! Of course, with Lindsay in Africa and no other siblings, it was just my family and my parents, which isn't much to prepare for, but still it was my first hosted Christmas and was still pretty cool.
The kids are doing great. Jarrin is adjusting much better now and school isn't quite as rough for him as it was last year. He has made some great new friends and is even in a "band" with his best friend Ethan. Of course, neither of them play an instrument (unless Guitar Hero counts) but that isn't stopping them from planning their first "show"--set to take place supposedly on the 23rd in his friend Ethan's basement. They've even made tickets....we'll see what happens!! :-)
Kayla is still doing well at her home-schooling and has been dating the same boy for quite awhile now. His name is Jimmy and we all like him a lot. He's been a good influence on her and doesn't complain about having to spend much of his time with her here at the house. He's even sat down and played a few "family" games with us. It's nice to finally get to know one of her boyfriends--especially one as nice as this one.
Things between Kayla and I have been getting better and better too. It's not perfect by any means, but we're finally starting to find roles in each others lives that make both of us more or less happy. :-) Who said parenting was easy? Let alone parenting someone who you're a relative stranger to...Like I said, baby steps but we're getting there.
Shawn is good, basically the same as always. He's my rock, always there when I need him. I really don't know how I would have been able to weather the storms we've been through the past two years if it wasn't for him. Of course, technically, the storms wouldn't have been there if we weren't together, but for better or worse, we're in it together. I thank God for that everyday, because I know that so many relationships would have fallen apart if faced with the same trials and we're as solid as we ever have been. I love him to pieces.:-)
Speaking of storms, for those of you who don't know (and I don't know why you would be reading this if you didn't know me well enough to know this fact....) we have been trying to have another baby ever since we got married. Almost 2 years later, we still aren't having any luck. My doctor has me on metformin (for insulin resistance)--which makes me sick. I'm also on clomid (for infertility)--which makes me crazy. Seriously. The mood swings are ridiculous. I hate that I have to be on so many prescriptions (I know 2 isn't many, but for someone who rarely even takes tylenol---it's alot). But if it helps us to bring another bundle of joy into the world, I'll do it.
Anyway, that's all that's going on in our lives. I will try and post again soon, hopefully with more exciting news than this post. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that 2009 is going to bring great and wonderful things!
